My journey entering the blogger community and tips on how to support a Blogger or Influencer
Look we all know that person on social media that is clearly trying to become “instafamous”. Whether you see they have landed a few brand deals, their photos are better and posting more frequently, or they have recently launched a blog; it is evident their goal is to start monetizing their social media.
I am that girl.
I am not sure exactly how I got here but I do know I am not going back. Getting Chic Done launched in October 2019 and have finally found my passion. I have always been a left- brained person, I thrive in a creative workspace. I went to a damn arts school for middle school for crying out loud! I suppose that paired with my internal entrepreneurial spirit is how I ended up here. But somehow I always found myself in these random jobs, managing staff, and creating reports because… well, I was good at it. And there was always something going on in life where money took precedent (as it typically does.)
Which brings me to today.
Two weeks ago I lost my job.
I had a great gig. I may not have loved what I was doing and certain other aspects, but I cannot deny I had a great setup. I worked from home, essentially when I wanted, for 20 hours a week for a hard money lender and real estate firm. With a 1.5 year old at home, this was ideal. I got to raise my baby at home and have not only a source of income, but purpose as well.
I started feeling it slip away from me shortly after the pandemic started. First week in July I got the text [you heard me right *cough* text,] that I was no longer needed. Initially I was so angry, and hurt, and scared, and embarrassed (I had never been laid off/fired in my life!] But then, with the support of my husband, I decided it was an opportunity. This was the door I needed to open to have the time to devote to Getting Chic Done. Ev looked at me and said “Em, now’s the time.”
Saying this stuff is hard. It is so difficult to be vulnerable on social media, but it is so important for me to be authentic with my followers. So here I am, laying it all out there asking you for support…
Launching Getting Chic Done
Since launching GCD I have have gone in and out of dedication to this blog, simply due to time. I find myself spending more time here when I feel other parts of my life are more chaotic. This is my safe space. Ironically I write these posts wondering if anyone will ever actually read them, but feeling the need to put it out there anyway. I have felt so much love and support from family, friends, and followers over the last 10 months that I feel constantly encouraged to keep sharing (and thank you so much for that!)
My goal is to be a full time Blogger/ Influencer. I have been trying laboriously to grow my social media accounts and blog following by taking endless online courses, engaging with other Bloggers and Influencer, and reaching out other like-minded mamas in the digital world. Some may think Bloggers/Influencers aren’t “real jobs” but let me tell you. I have SO much respect for these women as there is immense amounts of dedication, commitment, and TIME that goes into this career. But I am here for it!
I am so freaking passionate about this damn blog. I used to feel meek and embarassed when talking about it and now I stand proud saying “I am a blogger <3” This is my dream.. to share my experiences in a creative way in hopes of making other women and mamas lives a little easier.
Getting Chic Done Mission
Getting Chic Done originated as a platform to share my experiences navigating pregnancy and my new role as a mother; it has since evolved into much more. While my photos and social media are certainly the highlight reel of my journey, I love using my captions and blog posts to dive deeper into my day to day struggles and milestones. My goal is to create relatable content to share brands I love with the #momcommunity.
